2023 6’2 Nasir Whitlock – Gain Elite 17U
Nasir Whitlock has been one of the top scoring guards on the NY2LA Association all year and dropped a 30 piece effort on Friday to lead Gain Elite to a big win. Whitlock can knock down jumpers off the dribble with range to the three point line and has nice touch in the midrange. Although scoring is his calling card, Whitlock also had some really nice moments as a facilitator, finishing with 7 assists.
2023 6’5 Gavyn Hurley – Wisconsin Swing 17U
Gavyn Hurley finished the day with a huge performance for Wisconsin Swing in a good win, finishing with 29 points. Hurley is a combo guard who can play on and off the ball offensively, has a nice handle and the strength to finish in traffic in the paint. At 6’5 he can defend multiple positions on the perimeter and has been one of the best rebounding guards I have seen at Best of the South. Hurley has improved his jumper and was knocking down some threes on Friday as well. He holds a handful of D2 offers and don’t be surprised to see D1s start to get on board with his recruitment very soon.
2023 5’11 Arhman Lewis – Movement Hoops 17U
Arhman Lewis has been one of the top floor generals at Best of the South. helping lead Movement Hoops to the sweet 16 with a 4-0 record. Lewis controls the pace with the ball in his hands and has great understanding of when to push in transition and when to slow down and get his team into their half court sets. He is lightning quick and plays with the ball on a string, able to get paint touches and set up teammates for open looks. Lewis has been at his best in PNR making some high level reads and can finish with either hand at the rim. He recently picked up his first offer from D2 Augustana (SD).
2023 6’4 Kamari Slaughter – 94Feet Elite 17U
Kamari Slaughter scored 17 points to lead 94Feet to a win over WI Dynasty on Friday night. At 6’4, Slaughter has the size and strength to play through contact, getting downhill to the rim and put down a rim shaking dunk attacking the basket. He has really impressed as an on ball defender, where his combination of lateral quickness and physicality give opposing guards major problems. Slaughter is not quite a true PG, but has shown some nice playmaking ability off the dribble and has a nice stroke from the perimeter.
2023 6’11 Xavier Booker – George Hill 17U
After somewhat of a slow start to the week, Xavier Booker came alive on Friday night scoring 21 points – including 19 in the second half - and showed why he is a 5 star prospect and ranked top 5 in the country. The 6’11 forward is a fluid athlete, can grab defensive rebounds and push in transition off the dribble. Booker has great touch on his jumper, made some tough midrange pull ups and has range past the three point line. In the most impressive play of the night, Booker attacked baseline, went up and under the rim using every inch of his wingspan to put down a highlight real reverse dunk over a defender.
2023 6’4 Demarion Burch – Team Haliburton 17U
Demarion Burch is a strong and athletic lead guard who has had a big week for Team Haliburton. The lefty puts a ton of pressure on the rim getting downhill for paint touches and has had some explosive finishes above the rim. Burch has some wiggle to his game and can break defenders down off the dribble and create space on the perimeter to get off jumpers. Burch looks the part of a mid-major D1 guard and should see his recruitment continue to expand after this weekend.
2023 6’8 Asa White – Team Wall 17U
Asa White is an athletic forward wo plays with a ton of energy and had a great day Friday for Team Wall. In a tough loss Friday morning White was the bright spot for his team finishing with 25 points and making his presence felt on the glass and as a rim protector. He showed great touch in the mid-post, hitting turnaround jumpers, and some impressive jump hooks over the defense. At 6’8 with a high motor, White is going to make a college coach very happy down the road and expect him to add some additional offers in the coming days.
