In addition to the top performers and stock boosters, here are a few players that had stellar performances worthy of recognition over the course of the Grassroots Showcase in Louisville this past weekend.
Stevie Elam – 2025 – PG – The Academy
Apart of a highly talented trio of guards from The Academy team that went undefeated down in Louisville. Elam is a high energy guard that showed out on both ends of the floor. A very active pressure defender that gets all over the ball disrupting opposing offenses. A good slasher with nice moves with the ball scoring in bunches going to the basket but can also hit some shots from the outside.
Josiah Mawdesley – 2025 – SG – BCB
Mawdesley was one of the top perimeter defenders I saw over the course of the tournament. He stands at 6’4” with good length and agility. The freshman moves his feet very well to get all over the ball without getting beat. It did not matter what position he was matched up against, the freshman shut them down.
Brian Taylor – 2025 – C – Motor City Grizzlies
A very intriguing 6’7” post with good length that showed a lot over the course of the tournament. While his game is still developing he still made a big impact, especially down in the paint on both ends. An aggressive rim protector that challenges everything around the paint as well to grabbing all boards around him. Taylor scored it on a good percent of his paint touches and showed the ability to score it effectively posting up.
Michael Wellman – 2025 – SF – 94 Feet Elite
A versatile 6’5” wing that does so much for this team. While he can play big, he also has a nice skill set to be a standout on both ends of the floor. He is a very tough matchup offensively as not only can he handle the ball and hit some jumpers but also scored it strong in the paint.
Kamren Wires – 2025 – PG – Mid Pro Academy
An unselfish point guard that can really facilitate the ball. Wires has good handle and moves well with the ball in his hands to often get into the defense to set up his teammates. Over the course of the tournament Wires was racking up the assists with his passing ability plus seeing the floor very well on the move.
