There were plenty of intriguing and talented players at the 17U level in Louisville for the Grassroots Showcase. Here are several that stood out with their impressive play.
Reggie Bass – 2022 – SG – George Hill All Indy Unsigned
While Bass has a great ability to do so much on the floor, he greatly impressed on Saturday with his outside shooting and tough on ball defensive play. In his game against the Tennessee Tigers Bass drilled five threes spotting up with his smooth jumper including one in the final seconds to send the game to overtime. One of the top unsigned seniors left in the region.
Xavier Fisher – 2022 – PG – Tennessee Tigers
The unsigned senior was one of the top distributors of the tournament. He is strong with the ball in his hands and has a great ability to get wherever he wants on the floor. A true floor general that reads the floor well and is a good decision maker with the ball. Fisher was constantly getting into the paint to create great opportunities for his teammates.
Jaborri McGhee – 2022 – G – CP25
A tough and athletic guard that played well on both ends of the floor. Not only did McGhee score it very effectively taking it strong to the basket but also hit some jumpers pulling up in the mid-range and spotting up from three. A very active defender that gets all over the basketball without getting beat.
CJ O’Hara – 2023 – SG – Gain Elite Minnesota
After a highly productive weekend at the Spring Extravaganza for the first live period, the junior was even better this past weekend. He is a productive and versatile wing that stood out with his play on both ends of the floor. He shined in a matchup against 1of1 scoring 25 points in a hard-fought victory. He was very effective attacking the basket using his strong build but also shot it well from the outside in addition to being a tough and aggressive perimeter defender.
Mikey Williams – 2023 – G – 1of 1
Williams drew huge crowds all weekend and did not disappoint. In his game versus 3D Empire, he was able to get the game winning driving bucket in the finals seconds. One of the purest scorers of the tournament with the ball in his hands. He can create his own shot from the outside well but just as easily take it strong to the bucket and finish it in traffic. Even with plenty of defensive attention on him all tournament, Williams scored it at a high rate. Not only did Williams display his scoring ability but the athletic guard impacted the game in all facets.
