With the hundreds and hundreds of teams on hand in Louisville this past weekend, there were plenty of players making a name for themselves. Here is part one of the stock boosters for the 17U level at the Grassroots showcase.
Torey Alston – 2023 – SF – Team Trezz
Another member of this strong Team Trezz that greatly impressed along with Treyvon Byrd. Alston is a long and active wing who is a true stat stuffer. He has that great blend of athleticism, motor, and 6’8” size to be able to do so much on the floor and is best suited for today’s brand of basketball.
Trevor Barrett – 2023 – PG – Grassroots NC
The junior is a skilled scorer that was doing it in bunches. Even while putting up some good point totals, he is a player that doesn’t force anything and is smart with the ball in his hands. Barrett excelled going hard to the basket and would just not be denied. He has a good toughness to his game with the ability to finish everything around the basket in traffic plus hit pull ups in the mid-range.
Dejohn Blunt – 2023 – PG – Hidden Gems
Blunt had multiple impressive games over the weekend to help his team to a 3-1 record in the tournament. The junior has good handle and moves with the ball to get into the paint often and finish but can also create his own shot from the outside and knock them down. While he had big scoring games of 24 and 17 points, Blunt also created for his teammates too.
Tyler Burrows – 2022 – PG – Mercury Elite
The unsigned senior put in a great performance at the Grassroots Showcase scoring the ball at a high level and doing so very efficiently. Burrows’ jumper was on full display as he was creating for himself in the mid-range and three all at a high percentage. He moves well with the ball and has a nice ability to quickly rise up to hit his shots right over defenders. More than just a scorer Burrows also passed the ball well.
Jake Cherry – 2023 – C – Kyle Guy Elite
As a 6’10” big man, there is a lot to like from Cherry’s game. He has some length and moves very well for his size in addition to playing with a good motor. Cherry is active defending the paint but can also defend out on the perimeter with his mobility. He scored the ball well around the paint and was aggressive going to the glass on both ends. The junior big has great upside.
Dawson Edwards – 2022 – PG – Wildcats Elite
The point guard was constantly getting into the paint and creating. He is strong with the ball with good quickness and moves to continuously beat his man off the dribble. A smart decision maker who can read the floor quickly and break down a defense. In his game on Saturday, Edwards scored 16 points and was key down the stretch making play after play to lead his team to a win.
Britain Harris – 2022 – PG – 94 Feet Elite
While Kamari Slaughter has been a very popular name for 94 Feet Elite this entire month, Harris is one of a few other players from this very talented team to not miss who had himself a big weekend. Not only does he have good positional size and length but also impressed with his versatile game and high IQ. He plays the point and role of facilitator well but can also go out there get a bucket when he needs to from the outside as well as getting to the rim.
Logan Feltman – 2022 – PF – CP25
The versatile forward showcased plenty of tools to his game. Even at 6’10” with good length he is agile with a good skill set. Defensively he played well inside blocking and altering plenty of shots but can also switch out onto the perimeter. Offensively he can do a bit of everything scoring inside, spotting up for threes, and putting the ball on the floor. The unsigned senior showed great upside with everything he brings.
Gavyn Hurley – 2023 – G – Wisconsin Swing
Tournament after tournament Hurley continues to produce and was a big reason behind the Swing’s undefeated mark over the course of the tournament. With his size in the backcourt, length, IQ, versatile scoring, and all-around skills, Hurley can do so much on the floor and is always making a big impact one way or another.
