The Grassroots Showcase capped off with another tremendous day of basketball on Sunday. With 57 courts of action all at the Kentucky Expo Center, there was plenty of great performers to choose from.
Amir Perryman – 2025 – PG – The Academy
While a few different members of the highly talented The Academy team impressed over the weekend including Luke Westerdale, Charles Kage, and Stevie Elam, Perryman shined on Sunday in a game versus Team Temple. He is a gifted point guard that greatly impressed with not only his scoring ability but even more with his distributing. He excels attacking the basket with his vision and passing on the move. Perryman is a big reason why this team went undefeated over the course of the tournament.
Jay Rose – 2024 – G/F – Griffin Elite
Even while playing up a level, Rose had one of the top scoring displays of the tournament on Sunday with a 30-point game. Rose is a pure knockdown shooter that drilled seven threes in the game. He works to get good looks and can quickly get into his shot as well to hitting a few of them with defenders draped all over him. More than just a shooter Rose also made some plays off the dribble.
Derin Saran – 2023 – PG – 1of1
The point guard had a tremendous showing on Sunday with 20 points as well to distributing it against a very good Mid Pro Academy team. Saran has good positional size at 6’4” as well to a nice array of point guard skills. He moves extremely well with the ball to constantly get into the paint and finished extremely well in traffic as well as creating for others.
Luther Smith – 2023 – G – MTXE Premier
Smith continued his remarkable spring on Sunday. He led MTXE to an overtime victory over a talented Griffin Elite team while scoring 17 points. The junior showcased his great scoring ability as he can create for himself from the outside as well to getting to the rim. One of the biggest stock risers of the spring.
Jaymen Townsend – 2025 – F – George Hill All Indy
The freshman forward had his versatile skill set on display in Louisville. At times he can be a force down battling in the paint but also plays well out on the perimeter. Townsend was shooting the ball well on Sunday spotting up from three in addition to attacking the basket and passing it well.
