Over at Brookfield East H.S. (WI) on Sunday for the final day of the 2019 NY2LA Sports Spring Extravaganza, the 15U NY2LA Association teams took the courts once again and battled it out on the hardwood. Several Class of 2022 players were ready to go and lead their teams, and they did just that with some excellent outings. Below are some of the final day’s top performers and how they helped their teams with their play on Sunday.

TOP PERFORMERS
MARIEON ANDERSON – 2022 – G/F – QUAD CITY ELITE
Anderson did a nice job of playing within himself Sunday afternoon. He was patient for his scoring opportunities and made the most of them when he got a chance to finish around the basket. He also went up strong inside and was able to go to the free throw line where he sank 3 tries, and finished with 11 points in their overtime win.

CHASE BONDER – 2022 – F – KESSEL HEAT
Bonder made some really tough plays for his team Sunday, weaving through traffic in the paint and then finishing with nice touch at the rim. He also hit a couple short range shots and played strong rebounding the ball. He had 10 points in a game, also converting 2 free throw chances.

CHRISTOPHER CAMPBELL – 2022 – G/F – WI PLAYMAKERS
Campbell did a lot of his work late in the game Sunday afternoon as the Playmakers made a strong push to challenge the opponent down the stretch. Campbell got after it defensively and used his wingspan to cause problems for the opposing ball-handlers. He turned turnovers into scoring opportunities and finished both at the rim on the break as well as from beyond the arc, splashing a pair of three’s in the closing minutes to finish with 16 points.

CONNOR ESSEGIAN – 2022 – SG – TEAM FOCUS GOLD
Essegian was awesome Saturday for Focus, really displaying versatility in his game and making an impact on both ends of the floor. Offensively though is where he really showed out, reading his cuts to the hoop perfectly at times and finding lanes to slash through. He went to the basket under control, finished strong and then was also excellent from the perimeter, swishing 3 three’s. He finished the game with 19 points in a solid effort.

COOPER FAIRMAN – 2022 – G – THE ACADEMY (AABA)
Fairman played really well for AABA, by being really good at the guard position, both sharing the basketball and creating for teammates, as well as knocking down shots from different spots in the offense. He finished lay-ups, but also drained 3 three’s, and finished with 13 points.

NICK FERGE – 2022 – SG – WI RAP
Ferge made some very nice plays for his team in their win Sunday afternoon. The young off-guard found his looks from the perimeter and drilled a couple of those opportunities, as well as made some other nice plays finishing going to the basket under control. He also hit a pair of free throws and had 14 points total in the game.

JEVON FRANCE – 2022 – G – REACH LEGENDS
France had a nice outing for REACH, playing with quickness and speed up and down the floor for his team and showing some range in his game. He displayed outside shooting and the ability to score going to the rim, and played through some contact, also converting a pair of free throws, finishing up with 11 points.

K’SHAWN GIBBS – 2022 – PG – WI DYNASTY
Gibbs played really well and displayed great speed and quickness with the ball in his hands. He had control, and was really strong attacking the basket on several occasions. He got to the free throw line a number of times and sank 5 of them, and otherwise was finishing through traffic going to the hoop, finishing with 13 points in a close loss Sunday.

KALE KROUGH – 2022 – F/C – ALL IOWA ATTACK
Krough played very well for All Iowa Attack in a game that ended much closer than it appeared for awhile. The solid post prospect made some great plays defensively using his size inside and then pulling down some rebounds. Offensively he finished well at the basket and also had an impressive coast-to-coast take off of a steal where he weaved by a couple defenders before putting a short-range runner in off the glass nicely. He ended up leading his team in scoring with 16 points.

MICHAEL LABNO – 2022 – G – ALL IN ELITE
Labno played a solid game all-around for All In in one of their games Sunday. The young guard did a really nice job when he got his hands on the ball in the half-court by being patient and finding his spaces to get by defenders and finish around the basket. He also knocked down a couple tough shots and drained a three-pointer, finishing the game with 13 points.

GRYPHON MAYES – 2022 – F – THE ACADEMY (AABA)
Mayes did a great job on both ends of the court for AABA in their game Sunday. The tough forward prospect was active defensively and did a nice job rebounding the basketball at times, and then offensively Mayes was steady, finishing shots when he got the opportunities and playing strong with the ball, converting a pair of free throw attempts and finishing with 10 points.

JAYDEN MCCLAIN – 2022 – PG – TEAM RAMEY
McClain carried the scoring load for Ramey on Saturday evening, making plays all over the court. He started the scoring out by burying a three-pointer, then got to work getting to the middle on the drive and finding ways to finish. He converted a free throw later and then also hit another three ball on his way to winding up with a team-high 19 points

JAYLEN MONTGOMERY – 2022 – PG – ALL IN ELITE
Montgomery had 12 points for All In and played really well, with great energy and quickness throughout the game. On offense, Montgomery played well with the ball in his hands and used his quickness to get by defenders and attack the paint. He finished a couple times going to the basket and was also displaying his outside shooting ability as he hit a pair of three’s in the game. Added to that was toughness and the ability to get to the free throw line where he made a couple attempts there.

AMARION NIMMERS – 2022 – PG – QUAD CITY ELITE
Nimmers had a great game for Quad City as they finished out a strong game with an overtime win, led by the young floor general. With his quickness and handles, Nimmers was able to use some nice moves and his burst to get past defenders and attack the rim. He capitalized on a few opportunities there by going up strong and drawing contact to get to the free throw line where he made 6 attempts. He also lit it up some from three with a trio of treys, and leading the way for his team with 17 points.

COREY PHILLIPS – 2022 – F – ALL IOWA ATTACK
Phillips played tough and showed his skill set throughout the game for AIA. He was able to get to the rim several times and rebounded strong. He went to the hoop with control and toughness, finishing up at the line for 3 free throws made. Otherwise Phillips showed off his ability to shoot from the perimeter as well with a pair of three’s he sank, and finished with 15 points.

EVAN PORTO – 2022 – G – KESSEL HEAT
Porto did the most of his work with his shooting ability, swishing 3 three-pointers through the nets with confidence. He added another bucket in the game and otherwise played with great energy and effort, finishing with 11 points in the game to help his team.
 
DAVION MCCARTHY – 2022 – PG – IL CENTRAL ELITE
McCarthy was awesome for IL Central in their final game of the event, where he was all over the court flying around on both ends. With his size and skill set, McCarthy was able to use mismatches to find ways to the score the ball whether it was getting to the basket for buckets or shooting over defenders and knocking down a couple three’s in the game. He finished with a quality 18-point effort.

JUOK RIAK – 2022 – F – WI DYNASTY
Riak played really well for Dynasty as they took QCE to overtime in a tough loss. The long forward prospect showed great control when he had the ball around the paint, and had nice touch with his shots. He also played strong enough to get himself to the free throw line a number of times and converted 5 of those opportunities to points. He also showed he can shoot it outside a bit by hitting a three in the game and finished with 16 points.

JOSH RIEGLER – 2022 – PG – WI RAP
Riegler was really good for RAP, making plays in a variety of ways for his team and really commanding the game well from the point position. He helped control the tempo, and was aggressive when taking the ball to the hoop. Riegler made a few nice baskets there, knocked down a three-ball, and made 4 free throws in the game, tallying 14 points to lead the way in their victory.

MARSHAWN SAYLES – 2022 – F – TEAM RAMEY
Sayles played with good strength and good control going up and attacking the basket in traffic often. He did a steady job helping control the rebounds with his team, and was efficient scoring the ball around the basket as well as stepping away and knocking down a couple shots, including a three-pointer. He finished with 16 points in the later game.

MAX WEISBROD – 2022 – G – WI SWING
Weisbrod played stellar for the Swing in their final game Sunday, really commanding the ball on offense and utilizing his skill set to put the ball through the hoop. He was able to score off the bounce, but also was on fire shooting it, hitting 3 triples in the game, ultimately finishing the contest with 15 points to lead his team.
